About Us

Greydove - The Name - The People

The name "Greydove" was registered as a kennel prefix in Australia in early 1998, being an amalgamation of 2 kennels, Limenau and Ghosthund, (Val and Narelle). Val’s experience and involvement in Weimaraners began in the early 1980s and Narelle purchased her first Weimaraner in 1991.

.

In the late 80's Val imported 2 dogs [pictured above right] from the Silvershadow Kennel in the United Kingdom imported incorporating English and German lines.

Greydove itself began with 3 superb foundation bitches from the very best bloodlines available at the time, CH Kadma Xtra Special Sage AI, CH Clayco Just It and AM & AUST CH Nani's Dis-Harmony Imp USA.

The generations that have been bred down right to 2009 can be seen at each of Rosie, Sashca and Harmony's individual web pages on our site under Foundations.

Our interest has always been to combine what is in Australia with the American Weimaraner and this was how we came to have the 3 spectacular bitches to found Greydove.

In the 90's frozen semen was imported from 2 American dogs, Am Ch Valmar's EZ Jazztime and Am Ch Valmar's Sage v Wustenwind, the latter producing our top bitch BIS/BISS CH Kadma Xtra Special Sage A.I. Although this breeding was done under the Kadma prefix, it actually was at the instigation of Val who had seen progeny from Sage in the US and knew exactly what we would get by incorporating a particular set of blood lines. And that’s what happened and how we got Rosie. Rosie was a winner from the puppy class to multiple Best in Show and Runner Up in Show Wins at All Breeds and Specialty level shows.

To continue to incorporate new lines into our kennel, frozen semen was imported from the US. Am Ch Nani's Concert Master and Am Ch Nani's Smart Aleck; Am Ch Arokat's Echobar Riverdance and Am/Can Ch Valmar’s Unanimous Decision. Impeccably bred dogs with outstanding show records; Our first AI litter was from Rosie and Am Ch Arokat's Echobar Riverdance born in 2001. Our second AI litter, was Sascha and Am Ch Valmar's Sage V Wustenwind, born in December 2002, our third from Rosie and Am/Can Ch Valmar’s Unanimous Decision was born in March 2004 our fourth was born in December 2006 from Diva and Am Ch Nani's Concert Master BROM and most recently, 2008 out of Greydove Rhapsody In Blue AI sired by Am/Can Ch Valmar's Unanimous Decision.
Special thanks to Rob Zammit for these 5 litters.

From the US imports were to come from the Nani's kennel in Indianapolis, Harmony, Am/Aust Ch Nani's Dis-Harmony who arrived in 1999 and Chip, Am & Aust Ch Nani N Greydove Milenium Bug who arrived in 2000. These were followed by Millie, Am Ch Jokar's RC Promise from Hawaii. In 2004 we imported, from Pewter Run Kennels in Kansas, Frankie, Am/Aust Ch PewterRun Greydove Black Magic, Frankie incorporates 2 very famous kennels in the USA – Camelot and Silversmith. Frankie brought with him lines that are new to Australia. Frankie has gone on to an exciting show career being a multi Best in Show winner and multi Best of Breed winner at Royal Show level. He has been a wonderful addition to our kennel and has produced American and Australian Champion progeny.

Probably though the most exciting imports have been from a litter which we co-bred in Hawaii in 2006 from our US Ch Greydove ‘Ekahi Islandgal (Tita). Tita was bred to the dog of our choice in Hawaii, Am Ch Nani’s Tsurutani Honor Bound JH (Bounder). From this litter 2 very exciting youngsters, Aust Ch Greydove ‘Ekahi Surfer Girl (Nani) and BIS Aust Ch ‘Ekahi Greydove Quicksilver (Jett) came to us. Apart from their show potential, which they are already proving, their lines incorporate the very best US and Australian lines. Jett equalled his Aunt "Diva" and won the prestigious Best Puppy in Show award at the Sydney Royal 2007 and followed that win up with an All Breeds Best in Show award under 12 months of age.  In 2008 Jett returned to the islands and won the Weimaraner Club of Hawaii Specialty beating both his parents and now is an American Champion.

2008 also saw our new addition of CH Ghostwind Smokin Gun "Castro" a stunning dog we had admired since seeing him as a 4 month old puppy.  He is a fabulous showdog and great ambassador of the breed, temperament second to none and proving to be a wonderful producer for us.

2009 saw the very exciting addition Rissana Hillwood Perfect Harmony at Greydove USA "Margeaux" - we have been fortunate to purchase a new bitch from the world's top winning Weimaraner "Marge" CH Colsidex Seabreeze Perfect Fit and we look forward to incorporating these exciting dogs into our breeding program.  2009 also saw "Castro" rise to some amazing wins, 2 x Best in Specialty Show wins and one Runner Up to Best in Specialty show and ended as # 1 Male Weimarner in Australia.

2010 - the Weimaraner National, all dogs graded Excellent and Castro exported to New Zealand where he attained his Championship there.  Thereafter the arrival of "Margeaux" mid year and we had a great campaign with her from the moment she arrived.

2011 was an exciting year where Margeaux won her All Breeds Best in Show, the award we all dream of. We visited the USA National and chose our next import from Jess Doub in Canada, Breica Greydove Walk This Way Imp Can.  Tyler arrived in December 2011.

2012 Our last litter from Nani, we kept Greydove Surfin Malibu, unfortunately we lost our Nani at this time.  Tyler came out of quarantine and earned not only his Championship but many top awards including BEST IN SHOW, BEST IN SHOW SPECIALTY, Breeze also finished her championship from the puppy class and we added a new baby Weisup Glitz N Glamour at Greydove Imp NZ.

2013 We start off this year expecting a litter out of Margeaux to Tyler.... it was another great show year for Tyler winning many BEST IN SHOW wins running into 2014 in which we campaigned Tyler, Margeaux, Glitter and Breeze.  Our breeding program slowed down to a degree but we were having so much success with our dogs we bred carefully and enjoyed some great wins with the dogs.  Sadly in mid 2014 Margeaux suffered a spinal problem and she passed to the Rainbow Bridge.  She had been an amazing companion to Val however we could not let her suffer.

For the last five years we have enjoyed many wonderful show memories with a small team, in 2017 Val and I travelled to the Garden State Specialty and met up with Sue Thomas who we convinced to send us our beautiful Am/Aust Ch Camelot's Just Bewitching imp USA.  We have been showing Sabrina for about a year until COVID19 put a stop to shows mid 2020.  We are also now in the process of importing a new dog Terrae Incognitae Red Max from Italy, we expect him to arrive at the end of 2020.

Our interest in the Lagotto Romagnolo came about from a visit in 2002 to the World Dog Show in Amsterdam. We bought our first Lagotto in early 2003, Tartufo Giovanna, whom we have shown to her title. Our first litter was born in May 2004 and since then we have had several more litters. To expand the gene pool, we imported from the Kan Trace kennels in Croatia, the very handsome CH Kan Trace At Greydove, now an Australian Champion and BOB Royal winner. He is proving to be an outstanding producer. Our first Lagotto bitch Kan Trace Greydove Gabriella has now arrived in Australia (Nov 07).

2008 saw the first semen from a Lagotto enter Australia and we shall be breeding to Multi Ch Lucignolo del Pesco in 2009.  2008 also saw the introduction of the test in Finland to clear the breed of Epilepsy and we are pleased to say no dogs we own or have bred have proven to carry or be affected.

We have had some wonderful wins with our dogs over the years....we have bred & owned many Champions, Best in Show winners at All Breeds and Specialty level and Royal Best of Breed winners ... please visit our Winners Circle page to see some of our high achievers !

For the most part, we are not breeding Lagotti at this time (2020).

We hope to produce many happy Weimaraners and Lagotti from Greydove for companions, show, obedience and hunting, but mostly for people to just love.

Val & Narelle
